The staff was lovely. We ate breakfast one morning. It was terrific.

Hamilton is a surprising city with a real mix of high culture (the art museum) and the gritty artifacts of its industrial past. Old Hamilton has a lot to do, see, eat, and drink, all walkable and with easy access to the GO Train. The Mountain (the Niagara Escarpment) is harder to access except by car, full of unhighlighted history and glimpses of a grand vista over Lake Ontario. The Bruce Trail and Dundas Valley Trails are accessible but you have to pay $11 to park. Newer homes and retail strip malls make this area seem like a suburb of Old Hamilton, with the escarpment as the natural barrier. As with all suburban areas, we got the impression that tourists were not welcome “Nothing to see here!” , a curious undervaluing of a novel bit of Ontario.

Hamilton is the best location to be able to access many attractions without paying very high prices and having large crowds when the day ends. Niagara Falls is just 30 minutes away and Toronto is just less than an hour. There is plenty of shopping and good restaurants. I have stayed in both Toronto and Niagara and found them to be very expensive for everything you do. It was far nicer to be a reasonable distance from both and be comfortable at a place between.

The global impression of Hamilton tends to be negative - and it is not deserved. We found the architecture to be wonderful, the people to be friendly and dining to be varied and generally very good (loved The Mule). We got lost walking one day and a gentleman actually drove us back downtown - over the top hospitality! The weather was very mild and the gardens were still in bloom - but we'd love to see more of it in the summer. Some of the key attractions were just not open, such as the air museum, or closed several days of the week, which was disappointing.

I was disappointed that most bars/restaurants were closed Sunday night. It was not easy to find something open where our group of friends could celebrate following a Grey Cup win. A BIG shoutout to The Cat ‘N’ Fiddle for being open that night. The city of Hamilton could do some things to beautify their city. I was only there for the Grey Cup but am definitely not drawn to go back for any other reasons.

Location was great and was reasonably priced.
Parking in area is not good. 22 steps and no railings are not acceptable. "Ola" bakery next door was fantastic, owners was 1 in a million, so warm and outgoing. Don't find em like her and hubby very often. Even gave us freebees for the road when leaving. WOW!

Much of the city to the east of downtown had a run down and dilapidated feel about it. A number of restaurants seem closed or shut down and the number of places for drug rehabilitation and services for people with problems did not create the best impression. On top of the escarpment was a different world.
The main reasons for our visit, The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and HMCS Haida were very worthwhile and the waterfront parks were very pleasant.
This was my second time staying at the Visitor's Inn. It is walking distance to McMaster University. The king-sized bed was wonderful, and the big screen is a smart TV, so I can watch what I want to watch on YouTube instead of flipping through 372 channels of junk. The Inn is a bit less expensive than the fancy hotels downtown, with the added bonus of not having to put up with the shuffling hordes of crazy, destitute street people who infest the area around James & King.
We were put into room 615. It smelt like an ashtray, although the front staff said the hotel was never a smoking hotel. They then moved us to room 235. The hallway to our room was littered with wet towels, guests bags of garbage, and fast food bags. Not sure if the hotel was short staffed? We arrived around 1030pm and the garbage was still in the hallway at 8am...
Excellent downtown location. Very short (3 minute) walk to Hamilton GO Centre. Access to public transit, bike share facilities, or walking to many amenities and attractions.
The apartment, although older, was very well maintained/kept, and had modern furnishings as well has some modern finishes.
This 3-night stay was for my mom and I. We were super impressed by the price and the fact that we each had separate rooms - something you aren’t always accommodated with in regular hotels. The location was perfect, as we were in town to visit family on the mountain for the long weekend.
Rooms spacious and very clean. The free coffee/espresso bar open 24 hours is wonderful. Really liked having real wine glasses in the room. Very happy with the hotel and will stay here every time I come to Hamilton from now on. Great meal in the on-site restaurant
The room was clean and comfortable. The shower stall is great because you can just step in . Plenty of towels and small shampoo/conditioner samples. The hotel is centrally located near the 403 and on a direct path to downtown Hamilton.
Everything was fantastic other than the $200 price. Could have been a bit cheaper but over all it was definitely one of the best hotels Ive stayed at. Definitely deserves a better rating than the 3 star rating it had.
Was perfect everything and staff was so friendly too. There were the guy under the name SAM at the fronkdesk is so helpful. We would like to stay again in this hotel😊
The location of the hotel is amazing. The room was very large and fit all 6 of us very comfortably. We will stay here again if we are in the Hamilton Area.
